Warriors Of Slaanesh - Realm Of Chaos Oldhammer Army

This week I'm away at a conference with work, which means zero hobby time. I'm having withdrawal symptoms! (I'm also missing my family about the same amount ;-) So to keep in some kind of touch with everyday life I'm looking over some preparatory photos for my Slaanesh army for the Oldhammer event in the summer. Here is my unit of six Slaaneshi Chaos Warriors. Using Realm Of Chaos rules these guys are super tough, making a unit of six entirely viable - can you imagine that in 8th ed?! You probably recognise Sigvald the Magnificent - the others are Chosen with heads left over from the Helstrider kit.

  1. Looking good Davey! I wish I had a copy of the old Realm of Chaos books, but they always sell for a small fortune on eBay...

    1. Thanks mate. I'm lucky to be of the age that means I have my original RoC books from bak in the day. The ones on eBay are eye wateringly pricey!

  2. My two cents,

I think you've missed the point of "old" in "old hammer". Your chaos warriors are way out of proportion to what you will be facing come old hammer day. And you called your crew of six an"army"? Its not an army, its a "warband"!

Just saying, but I think you may get a few sideways glances from other old school gamers bringing in your really new & shiny GW minis.

Hope I'm wrong for your sake.

    1. Thanks for commenting but actually I think you've missed the point yourself.

Oldhammer isn't about having old models. Some people like using old lead but Oldhammer is an ethos of gaming and not a cult for using old models. If you take a look at my posts about Oldhammer you'll see positive comments from the folks involved in setting up the day. So I'm afraid you're very wrong about the potential for odd looks for new models.

Also this is the first unit that I'm working on for an army - it isn't a warband, it's a unit for a Slaaneshi RoC army.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

    2. Take a look at these for an idea about Oldhammer as an ethos (there are others):

    3. I do think 6 Chaos Warriors is a bit much for the RoC warband game, mind. The majority of the time when you roll on the RoC warband charts you'll get 4 humans and 5 goblins*, about 30 points of models. Chaos Warriors roll in at 70 points a 'man'. This isn't about point-for-point 'balance', simply the capacity for a warband that powerful to actually have a game.

*Could be that I just need to change my dice.

    4. They aren't for the warband game, they're for a full RoC Slaanesh army using the list in Slaves to Darkness. This isn't part of the warband bit of the event at all but an army (hence the title) for a full/normal 3rd ed game.
